The benefits of a skylight

A skylight is more than a stylish touch, it is an investment in comfort and efficiency. To begin with, it floods a room with natural light, which cuts your reliance on artificial lighting and adds warmth in the cooler months. In addition, skylights that open improve ventilation in summer, letting warm air escape and reducing how hard your air conditioning has to work. On top of that, they add a modern, appealing feature that can lift your property’s value, while giving you a calming connection to the sky and natural light throughout the day.

Skylight installation done properly

A skylight is only as good as the seal around it, since a poorly fitted one becomes a leak waiting to happen. For that reason, we treat every installation as roof work first, making sure the flashing and waterproofing are right before we finish. As licensed roof plumbing specialists, we know exactly how a skylight needs to sit within your roof, whether it is tiled or metal, so you get all of the light and none of the leaks.

Why choose Easy Gutters and Roof

What sets us apart is the standard of our work. To begin with, we are licensed roof plumbing specialists and fully insured, so you are covered from start to finish. Because a skylight cuts through your roof, that roofing expertise matters more than it might seem. On every job, we take the time to do it properly rather than rushing to the next one, and every quote is clear and honest with no hidden extras. As a result, much of our work now comes from customers recommending us to their neighbours, which is the kind of reputation you only earn through consistent, quality workmanship.

Frequently asked questions

Will a skylight leak?

Not when it is installed properly. Specifically, most skylight leaks come down to poor flashing and waterproofing rather than the skylight itself. Because we are licensed roof plumbers, we get that detail right, so your skylight stays weathertight for the long term.

Yes. We fit skylights on tiled and metal roofs alike, adapting the flashing and seal to suit your roof type. Either way, the goal is the same, a secure, weatherproof finish that lets the light in and keeps the water out.

They can. Natural light reduces your need for artificial lighting during the day, and skylights that open help with ventilation, easing the load on your air conditioning in summer. Together, that can make a noticeable difference over the year.

Yes. We provide free, no obligation quotes across Sydney. We assess the room and the roof first, then give you a clear price with no hidden extras before any work begins.

I recently had roofing work completed by Hugo and his team, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the initial inspection through to completion, Hugo was professional, honest, and transparent every step of the way. Communication was excellent, with clear explanations of the work required, realistic timelines, and no hidden surprises. The team arrived on time, worked efficiently, and maintained a high standard of workmanship throughout the project. What stood out most was Hugo’s integrity and attention to detail. He took the time to answer all my questions, kept me informed during the process, and ensured everything was completed to a very high standard. It’s rare to find a contractor who is both highly skilled and genuinely focused on customer satisfaction. I would highly recommend Hugo and his company to anyone looking for reliable, professional, and quality roofing services. Thank you for making the entire process smooth, stress-free, and delivering such an outstanding result.

Due to poor sealant on the roof of our 49 units Hugo and his team had to do a lot of work replacing roof sheeting and all box gutters. Upon completion the leaks are gone an excellent job. His team are polite, very comfortable to have on site and efficient. I strongly recommend Easy Gutters to anyone searching for roof and gutter repairs. We now have a maintenance contract with them as a preventative measure.

PLANNED FOR THE ROOM AND ROOF

Bring More Natural Light Into Your Home

Skylights can bring daylight into internal rooms where standard windows are limited. The right outcome depends on product size, placement, glazing, roof orientation and how the unit is integrated into the surrounding roof.

A well-positioned skylight may reduce reliance on electric lighting during daylight hours. Overall thermal performance still depends on the selected product, glazing, size, orientation and shading.

SKYLIGHT OPTIONS FOR SYDNEY HOMES

Choose the Right Skylight Type

Glass skylights, domed skylights and tubular daylighting systems bring light into a home in different ways. The suitable option depends on the room, roof profile, pitch, ceiling layout, ventilation needs and available installation space.

GLASS SKYLIGHTS

Direct Daylight Through a Glazed Roof Unit

A glass skylight brings daylight directly through the roof. Depending on the selected product and site, the unit may be fixed or openable.

A non-opening skylight for natural light where additional ventilation is not required.
An openable model for daylight and controllable ventilation, subject to product access and site suitability.
Remote-controlled opening models may be solar-powered or hard-wired. Product and electrical requirements are confirmed before quoting.
DOME SKYLIGHTS

A Traditional Roof-Mounted Daylight Option

A domed skylight receives daylight at roof level and directs it into the room through the compatible opening or lightwell.

Most traditional dome skylights are non-opening daylight units with roof-specific base and flashing details.
Clear, opal or tinted options may be available depending on the selected product. The interior opening or diffuser must suit the property.
Vented configurations are considered only where the selected product and written scope include them.
TUBULAR DAYLIGHTING SYSTEMS

Daylight Through a Reflective Tube

Sun tunnels or tubular systems suit smaller internal spaces where a conventional skylight may not fit the available roof or ceiling layout.

The exterior component receives daylight at roof level and must be integrated with compatible flashing.
A rigid or flexible reflective route carries daylight through the roof and ceiling space, subject to a practical path.
The diffuser is the interior component that spreads the delivered daylight into the room. It is part of the tubular system, not a separate skylight.

*Product suitability is confirmed after assessing the roof, ceiling space, access and proposed location. An agreed roof or ceiling opening can be included in our skylight quote. Hard-wired electrical work and interior finishes such as light shafts, gyprock, plastering and painting require separate trades and quotes.

Skylight and surrounding flashing on a red metal roof in Sydney
ROOF-SPECIFIC DETAILS MATTER

Flashing Is Part of the Skylight System

The skylight and flashing must work with the roof covering, profile, pitch and selected product. Standard flashing systems may suit some tile and corrugated metal roofs, while other metal profiles can require a purpose-made approach.

Correct water-shedding details around the head, sides and lower edge help direct rainwater around the opening. Product and roof compatibility are confirmed before the installation or replacement scope is quoted.

Moisture near a skylight can have more than one cause, including the unit, flashing or adjoining roofing. We assess the visible roof-side condition before recommending the next step.

EXISTING SKYLIGHTS

Leaking Skylight? Find the Cause Before Repair or Replacement

Water near a skylight can come from the unit itself, the flashing where it meets the roof, surrounding roofing or condensation. We assess the visible condition and moisture pattern before recommending a local repair or skylight replacement.

01

What You Notice

Water staining, recurring moisture, fogging, visible dome or glazing damage, or a skylight that no longer suits the room.

02

What Needs Checking

The skylight unit, seals, flashing, surrounding roofing, water path and moisture conditions should be considered together.

03

The Practical Next Step

The scope may involve local roof-detail work, attention to the existing skylight, or complete skylight replacement.

The symptoms show us where to start, but not what needs replacing.Moisture near a skylight is not proof that the unit itself has failed.

ROOF, PRODUCT & ACCESS

What We Assess Before Skylight Installation or Replacement in Sydney

A skylight is not selected in isolation. The roof covering, existing opening, intended daylight or ventilation and safe access all affect the product, flashing approach and roof-side scope we can quote.

A

Roof & Flashing Fit

Roof material, profile and pitch must suit the selected skylight and flashing system. Some metal profiles may require a purpose-made roof-side detail.

B

Opening & Product Suitability

For replacement work, we compare the existing opening and visible surrounding condition with available product sizes and configurations. For a new installation, the proposed position must suit the room and roof layout.

C

Access & Agreed Scope

Roof access, product handling and the route through the roof and ceiling space affect what can be included. Any separate trade or specialist requirement is identified in the written quote.

A CLEAR PATH FORWARD

How the Process Works

Each project starts with the room and roof, then moves to a clearly agreed roof-side scope before scheduling.

Frequently Asked Questions

The appropriate option depends on the room, desired daylight and ventilation, roof type, pitch, access and available installation space. These details should be assessed before selecting a product.
A fixed skylight provides daylight without opening for ventilation. An openable skylight may be manually, solar or electrically operated and can provide controllable ventilation where the product and site are suitable.
A tubular daylight system uses a roof dome, a reflective tube or shaft and a ceiling diffuser. The diffuser is the interior component that distributes the transferred daylight into the room below.
Many systems have options for compatible metal and tile roofs, but the roof profile, pitch, selected product and flashing must be checked first. A standard flashing kit is not suitable for every metal roof profile.
Yes, subject to assessment. We check the existing unit, opening, roof profile and flashing before confirming whether the dome, glazing or complete skylight system should be replaced.
Yes. Moisture may relate to the skylight, flashing, adjacent roofing, drainage details, seals or condensation. The visible roof-side conditions should be assessed before the repair or replacement scope is determined.
We can install the compatible roof-mounted unit where it is included in the quote. Easy Gutters & Roof does not perform electrical wiring or the final electrical connection. For hard-wired models, the client must arrange a licensed electrician and the required electrical supply.
No. Easy Gutters & Roof handles the agreed skylight installation or replacement and roof-side work. We can also form the roof or ceiling opening when it is included in our quote, but our team does not build internal light shafts or carry out gyprock, plastering or interior painting. If those finishes are needed, we can recommend independent tradespeople or help coordinate their work. They provide separate quotes, and the scope is confirmed before you proceed.
Timing depends on the roof, access, existing opening, selected product, scope and weather. The expected schedule can be discussed after assessment.
Yes. Send us the property details and tell us whether you are considering a new skylight or replacing an existing unit.
